User Reviews

Users praise RP Diet Coach & Planner for strong macro tracking and meal-timing guidance, often calling it a helpful coach for weight loss and maintenance. However, multiple reviews co-occurring across updates cite major UX changes that worsen usability, persistent bugs that disrupt daily logging, expensive upfront pricing with no trial, weak support, and removal of familiar features. Overall, the app delivers solid macro coaching but is frequently hindered by stability, support, and UX issues that appear across many reviews.
Pros
  • Strong macro tracking with goal-based adjustments.
  • Meal timing guidance that helps adherence and structure.
  • Feels like a coach in your pocket with personalized macro guidance.
  • Long-time users view it as a proven tool for weight loss/maintenance.
Cons
  • UI/UX updates frequently degrade usability; new designs arrive with little warning and are harder to navigate.
  • Frequent bugs and reliability issues (logging glitches, day resets, white screen login, incorrect portion recalculations).
  • High upfront price with no free trial and perceived poor value; refunds and cancelation concerns.
  • Poor or slow customer support and little online help.
  • Removal or hiding of popular features from older versions and overall feature fragmentation.

This is basically a meal and macro tracking app, no different than any other tracking app. I was thinking that there was meal planning included, but there is not. No different from My Fitness Pal and basically just as expensive. I just wasted $20! If a tracking app is what you are looking for, there are cheaper and easier to use options out there.

I’ve had success using the fundamentals of RP but the app has gotten so complicated it’s not worth the headache any longer. Checking in meals, redistributing macros for the day (and saving that setting for the length of the diet), realistic redistribution (ie don’t tell me to eat 300g of red meat to reach a goal- tell me to add another meal!)…. But over all what was doable is just too time consuming to find the simplest of things.

So I really wanted to love this app because their hypertrophy app is GOATed. Unfortunately it’s not the most user friendly app and that matters for me because it’s what motivates me to track even through imperfect days, vacations, family and friends coming over when we order food etc. this review is meant to give my opinion and may change if the app gets better. All love. For one, the roster of labels it can scan is not as good as other apps. I have had a not small number of products that I could not scan. And it’s not easy to just find normal food items that estimate a general macro breakdown based on weight that’s not tied to a brand. That already knocks off a star. Second, even though the app has gotten significantly more forgiving than when I used it a few years ago, it’s still hard to be flexible. For one it locks you into a measuring unit that you have to change in a separate setting tab (so you either choose Oz, grams etc. unless there’s a way I don’t know). Why can’t we switch it per item added? Why am I forced to measure milk in grams and rice in oz? Why can’t I just select units that match the label or help me estimate per item? Third, it’s incredibly hard to add in food items add hoc. Sometimes I’m out, I just want to add a snack or food item I had outside, I can’t just do a quick macro log, instead I have to either set up a whole new food item per gram, or add in a new meal and just check it in. It’s not smooth at all. Fourth, why doesn’t it show macros and calories remaining? Most other apps show you not JUST what you consumed but what you have left. It’s a small thing but it helps (I’m not the best mental math guy so im Always pulling out my calculator). What ends up happening is I’m not motivated to log as much as I could. Yes it does a great job if you have every single meal planned to the gram, it does a good job estimating how many macros YOU need for the best results, but it’s been hard to use for me. Maybe I’m not disciplined but it just makes me want to switch. I’ve lost 25lbs by using a different app but wanted to give this a go again. If you’re not a pro or have your entire life planned out, you have life that requires flexibility, meeting friends, days that vary, you’re working late and need to order take out etc etc it’s not the most user friendly.
