The Official MTA App is valued for real-time arrivals and transfer planning, making it a strong transit tool when it works. However, updates have degraded usability: arrivals can be unreliable, widgets and quick-access favorites are gone, the UI is cluttered, map features are inconsistent, and the app may fail to load. Users miss the previous simplicity and reliability and want key features like widgets, favorites lists, and stable timing back.

Pros

Real-time arrivals and transfer planning are highly useful and considered a game changer.
The transfer functionality (seeing waits and planning routes) is excellent and helps with trips.
When functioning, the app has been among the most accurate timing apps and a solid go-to transit tool.

Cons

Arrival times are frequently inaccurate or jump unpredictably after updates.
Widget functionality has been removed or is unavailable, reducing quick access to train times.
The redesign makes the UI cluttered and less intuitive, complicating access to favorites and selecting specific lines.
Map/bus-tracking features are unreliable or missing, making it hard to see buses or their direction.
