User Reviews

TrustedHousesitters generally delivers reliable sitters and a peaceful, travel-friendly experience for pet owners, with many users forming strong relationships and enjoying cost savings. However, persistent, high-fee pricing changes, frequent app issues (crashes, inaccurate maps, flaky searches), limited applicant visibility, and weak support/claim handling are commonly mentioned downsides and detract from the experience. These recurring themes suggest solid value but ongoing friction around pricing, usability, and support that potential users should weigh carefully.
Pros
  • High-quality, trustworthy sitters who care for pets and homes, giving owners peace of mind
  • Enables affordable travel and care for pets while owners are away
  • Positive, friendly community with good communication and relationships that can become lasting
  • Long-term savings and value from using the platform for multiple sits
Cons
  • Significant and recurring fees (annual membership plus per-sit or booking fees) that many users view as unfair or opaque
  • Poor app usability and reliability (crashes, slow performance, unreliable maps/search filters, limited visibility of sits)
  • Weak or opaque customer support and dispute resolution, including refunds and claims handling
  • Restrictions that hamper finding sitters (only five open applicants, inconsistent location pins, limited notifications)
  • Host cancellations leaving sitters stranded with little safety net

Don’t bother. They want money just to have an account. Head over to Rover. They may take a percentage, but you don’t have to pay to book appointments and talk to people.

TrustedHousesitters presents itself as a pet-sitting exchange, but sitters often take on extensive responsibilities, pet care, cleaning, plants, mail, and more, while receiving no compensation or tips and now paying both membership and booking fees. In my experience over 1½ years, customer support has been consistently disappointing. When issues arose with demanding or inappropriate pet parents, I was essentially left to resolve them myself. The platform’s frequent technical issues and limited support make this especially frustrating. The business model increasingly feels focused on revenue rather than supporting the sitters who make the service possible. Compared with other platforms, THS has been far less responsive, accommodating, and sitter-focused.
