User Reviews

PocketMoney is valued for its long history and feature-rich multi-account budgeting with a familiar checkbook-style UI and responsive Help. However, users repeatedly complain about ads in paid versions, troublesome subscription renewals and restorations, a confusing new design, data-loss after updates, and unreliable bank linking. The sentiment is mixed: the app remains useful for many long-time users, but monetization changes, UX shifts, and data/banking issues hinder broad satisfaction.
Pros
  • Longstanding, trusted app with years of use and a proven track record
  • Robust multi-account management and budgeting features (group folders, recurring expenses, and future-dated planning) with easy navigation
  • Helpful support and well-documented Help section that some users found responsive
  • Familiar, checkbook-style interface that many users rely on for money management
Cons
  • Ads continue to appear even for paid/premium users, degrading the experience
  • Subscription model and renewal/restoration issues, including difficulties restoring purchases
  • New design/UX is overly complex and ad-heavy, with many comparing it unfavorably to the old version
  • Data loss or migration problems after updates, including years of data being inaccessible
  • Unreliable bank linking/automatic downloads (e.g., Chase) and API integration issues for some banks

I’m paying $30/year and now you add advertising on the app. What happened? Guess I need to find another app.

My GOLD level subscription renewed in December but I’m still seeing ads. Tried to restore subscription: error message. Tried to find support online: nonexistent! I’ve been using this app since it first appeared for the Newton way back when but I will be cancelling my subscription and looking for a new finance app.
