User Reviews

Users widely praise Route 66 Navigation for CarPlay integration, staying on the Route 66 path, and surfacing many attractions along the way. However, reliability issues (crashes and misrouting), high price, limited route customization, and outdated POI data are the most recurring downsides.
Pros
  • CarPlay-compatible turn-by-turn navigation with easy car integration
  • Keeps you on Route 66 and provides route guidance along the historic route
  • Pops up nearby Points of Interest and attractions as you drive
  • Helpful for planning and discovering sights, reducing reliance on guidebooks
Cons
  • Frequent crashes/lockups when setting destinations or during navigation
  • Off-route or dead-end re-routing; inconsistent routing can be confusing
  • High price/subscription model; perceived poor value
  • Limited route customization (only two routes; cannot create a personal, tailored trip)
  • Outdated or inaccurate POI data and missing/incorrect hours

This app was essential to us successfully driving on and staying on Route 66 from east to west. Unfortunately, there were times when it would alert us to historic places, sights, etc. after we had passed them. Very frustrating. Also, it doesn't indicate which side of the road the various attractions are on. We missed a few because we were looking at the wrong side of the highway. It didn't seem to update for construction. I had the latest version loaded, yet it kept trying to have us drive on a section that was closed. Frustration was that it kept trying to bring us back onto the closed road. Having said that, we would have missed a lot if we didn't use it.

Would absolutely recommend this app if you’re wanting to drive the historic Route 66 we used Google maps for two days and it bounced us everywhere. Downloaded this app and we have been on Historic Route 66 ever since!!!

I am not a fan of these navigation apps, but this one works quite well, and I plan to make good use of it. The developer has done a great job with making this app easy to navigate with. And the integration with CarPlay is a big plus. There's a few things to be desired though: 1. With so many POI's in this app, there should be a search feature so you can search for a POI, rather than scrolling through every city and state to find what you're looking for. There should also be an option to tag your POI's as a favorite. This way you can save them if you're planning a route. It would be nice to see these features added in a future release, please. 2. With this app, you set a starting and stopping point. Hit navigate, then you can save it for future use. It will show you the POI's along your route as you get closer to them. But why not have the ability to create a route, add your own POI's in the app to your route, and then save it? I would like to see custom routing in a future release, please. 3. A dark theme would be nice to accommodate drivers who have vision limitations, like myself. Other than that, it's a spiffy little app. Thanks for making it!
