Features & Capabilities

SQLPro for MySQL is a lightweight yet powerful MySQL and MariaDB database client that enables quick, reliable access to your databases, including cloud services like Amazon RDS, Microsoft Azure, and Digital Ocean. Designed for speed and clarity, it provides a clean UI to manage servers and databases from a single place.

Key features include IntelliSense/SQL autocompletion, syntax highlighting, a tabbed interface for easy multitasking, and the ability to execute multiple queries at once. Quickly browse tables and columns, switch between dark and light themes, and use SSH tunneling for secure connections. Export results to CSV, XML, or JSON, and enjoy NetBIOS support for broader network compatibility. Note: this extension supports MySQL and MariaDB only, and is not compatible with MSSQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.

User Reviews

Users praise the app’s UI/UX, portability, and responsive support, especially for on‑the‑go database work. However, frequent pricing changes and a heavy paywall/limited free tier dominate negative feedback, along with some UX friction in editing and query refresh. Overall, strong design and updates contrast with monetization concerns and feature gating.
Pros
  • Excellent UI/UX design and ease of use across iPad and macOS, with a Panic‑style, polished interface.
  • Developer responsiveness and active ongoing updates/bug fixes.
  • Strong portability for field work on iPad, enabling database access away from a laptop, with solid SSH tunneling support.
  • Cross‑platform parity with the macOS version and overall smooth, stable performance.
Cons
  • Pricing and monetization concerns: frequent price changes, high subscription costs, and a perception of deceptive free listing.
  • Free version is effectively unusable without purchasing; users report being unable to view results or interact without paying.
  • UX/workflow friction: editing fields is cumbersome with extra steps, and there is a lack of convenient refresh/re‑run options.
  • Ad‑like prompts and gating of core features behind a paywall, pressuring users to upgrade to pro.

I paid for a lifetime subscription a few years back, but they changed their pricing model out of the blue and I had to start paying monthly/annually. Did that for a while, until recently. Hard to justify paying so much for a MySQL app..

Has zero functionality without paying $60/yr. should not be listed with free apps.

Whether or not the description in the app store indicates that a purchase is required to see the results set, this app is clearly NOT free and such a statement is unethical and deceptive, at best. Falsely stating that the app is "free" causes the app to be shown when a search for free apps is made. It is free to the same degree that a solitaire game app that displays the cards, but, for a small fee, allows the player to actually move them, is free. It fails essentially of its purpose as a free app. It is useless unless a purchase is made. Therefore, it is a payment-required app and advertising it as anything else is a lie.
