Features & Capabilities

ScytheKick is an unofficial companion app for Scythe that lets you configure a game, manage Automa, and score rounds. Set the total players and Automa count, choose expansions, pick factions and mats, and enter player names. The free version supports two base-game players; Premium unlocks more players and the Invaders from Afar faction.

Navigate through scoring screens, draw or pick tiles, and access AR map features on compatible devices. Additional content—Rise of Fenris Campaign, Wind Gambit modules, and other expansions—are unlockable via in-app purchases, with an Automa Helper and AR Board Upgrade providing advanced functionality.

User Reviews

Overall, ScytheKick is highly praised for making Automa play and endgame scoring easier, especially for solo play and multi-Automa setups. Users love the move guidance, the Automa helper upgrade, and features like neoprene mat support. However, several recurring downsides include the cost of unlocking core features, a weak onboarding experience lacking help resources, no undo for discarded cards, occasional map/update/interface issues, and confusion when managing multiple Automata due to unclear indicators. Despite these, it remains a valued companion for Scythe fans.
Pros
  • Makes playing Automa much easier; solo or multi-Automa games become smoother thanks to the move guidance.
  • Move helper and Automa helper upgrade reduce tedious calculations and speed up turns.
  • Strong endgame scoring calculator; easy tally and adapts to expansions/multiple Automa scenarios.
  • Neoprene mat support added; aligns nicely with physical components of Scythe.
  • Generally well-designed and very useful for Scythe fans; a reliable companion for solo play.
Cons
  • In-app purchases are required to unlock core functionality, which many users feel is expensive.
  • Onboarding is weak: no built-in help section or straightforward instruction button; learning curve.
  • No undo option for discarded cards; risks of mistakes and frustration.
  • Occasional map/update/interface issues, including changes from updates (e.g., removal of a complimentary calculator) and compatibility concerns.
  • Difficulty distinguishing which Automa you are controlling in multi-Automa games; need clearer visual indicators.

I was anticipating a more intuitive app. On my first move I couldn’t add a second worker to a village. Plus there is no help section at all. I understand it doesn’t replace the board but it should allow for more options. Disappointed in the overall performance.

Made playing Automa so much easier. I played with 2 other AI and it’s so fun. Now I don’t have to wait for my friends anymore, I can just play alone
