Features & Capabilities

Frosthaven: Official Companion is a Chrome extension that simplifies setup and ongoing campaign management for Frosthaven. Create multiple parties, synchronize across devices for remote play, and share the table without handing devices. When you select a scenario, the app automatically configures monster stats, monster ability decks, and loot decks, and lets you track progress by marking scenarios as started or completed.

It also provides live gameplay support: draw from Monster or Ally Attack Modifier decks and from the Boss deck; enter hero initiatives and automatically sort heroes and monsters by initiative with their ability cards revealed. It auto-calculates moves and attack values, maintains HP, XP, loot, and conditions for heroes and monsters; create summons and NPCs with customizable stats and initiative; manage the 6 Elements; pause and resume sessions; undo/redo actions; disable initiatives or hide players for flexible play, and craft custom sessions with any monsters. The app accounts for scenario-specific cards and rules to keep play smooth.

User Reviews

Users praise the Frosthaven companion for drastically cutting combat setup by automating turns, damage, conditions, and initiative, plus automatic monster spawning and loot-deck management. The app also offers cross-device syncing and a quick way to track scenario progress, health, and persistent effects. However, recurring issues limit its usefulness: it lacks campaign/town management, leaving post-encounter cleanup and settlement chores unaddressed; it suffers from frequent bugs after updates, flaky support, and regression problems; the UI can be clunky with heavy tapping and visibility issues; and content gaps (missing cards/characters) reduce reliability.
Pros
  • Automates combat management (turn order, damage, and conditions), reducing tedium during battles.
  • Automatically handles monster spawning and enemy values, including door-triggered spawns and automated modifiers, saving setup time.
  • Synced across devices and tracks rounds, health, conditions, and decaying elements for a smoother multiplayer experience.
  • Manages the loot deck and card draws, streamlining setup/teardown and reducing manual counting.
  • Tracks scenario progression (which scenarios are completed), helping users know what’s done without manual notes.
Cons
  • No campaign or town management features; post-scenario cleanup like settlement/crafting is not supported.
  • Frequent bugs and regressions after updates; support is often unresponsive and patches sometimes break core functionality.
  • Clunky UI/UX with excessive taps, large hero bars, and poor initiative editing; difficult to customize or view monster abilities.
  • Content gaps and data omissions (missing cards/scenarios, characters from other campaigns not built in).
  • Stability/performance issues (battery drain, unreliable monster deck behavior, and features like add monster button failing).

This app does a phenomenal job at eliminating the tedium associated with gameplay, particularly the enemy management. It determines their turns, deals with their damage and conditions and it even helps digitally track your own characters’ status. The real problem though comes with what it doesn’t do. Frosthaven added a ton of tedium over Gloomhaven with the post-game cleanup managing the settlement and crafting. The app doesn’t help at all with that and if anything that’s where it’s most needed. What tedium this app saves is far outweighed by the tedium the game added. I’d rather it replace the town management than the combat management. What’s worse about the town management stuff is that you do it AFTER having already played a couple hours and finishing an encounter. Your game night feels like it’s ended but then you have all the cleanup you don’t want to do because you’ve already played a couple hours. It feels like cleaning up the table is just massively more tedious but the app doesn’t address that. This is probably more of an indictment of Frosthaven as a game than this app itself but the app is intended to smooth out the experience with the game but it ends up not going nearly far enough.

This is not an app that helps you manage the scenarios or outpost. All it does is help with card management. Waste of money.

It seems they’ve released this half-baked app in tandem with the release of the game. I opened a bug report for this “weird” thing that happens to me and my friends where the app covers half the screen with a zoomed-in card. Support non-responsive, no updates to app in almost one year. What a drag. The non-official app has better update cycles hopefully
