PeakVisor is praised for strong AR peak identification, reliable horizon accuracy, and powerful 3D mapping with mountain labeling, plus useful route planning and GPX import. However, multiple reviews note drawbacks: a steep price/subscription model, dependence on pre-downloaded offline maps, a restrictive free-use limit, and some cross-device reliability issues (Mac, Apple Watch). If you can tolerate the cost and plan around offline maps, it’s a highly capable hiking/navigation app.

Pros

Robust AR peak/summit functionality with reliable horizon accuracy.
Excellent 3D mapping and labeling of mountains with clear visualization.
Comprehensive route planning, tracking, and history features (save routes/trips, reviews, check-ins).
GPX/import support and cross-compatibility with Garmin Earthmate and other formats for mapping external rides.

Cons

Very high price and subscription model; perceived as not worth the cost.
Offline usability is poor; maps must be downloaded and may be unavailable without cell service.
Free version is limited to one use per day, making regular use impractical.
Cross-device reliability concerns (Mac version buggy and Apple Watch Ultra compatibility issues).

Recent reviews

Paid for life access but disappointed with absence of easy feature on the mobile version that can be added and makes it more city friendly: streets layout is much more prominent than trails. Even trails right outside the city are near impossible to distinguish from the streets. Please add a toggle or fade function for streets. COTREX does it really well, even the web version of Peakvisor is better at this!! Will update to 5 stars the second this is added!

Current version of route planning is very inaccurate. When you select start point and start adding waypoints, it diverts the route to alternative or doesn't recognize trails nearby. Other offline maps do just fine. Please fix it.
