User Reviews

Reviewers praise Verbling for its core service—connecting learners with tutors and enabling video lessons—and note benefits like accessible teacher notes, affordable 1-on-1 lessons, and class reminders. However, the iOS app suffers from stability and login issues, scheduling/time-zone and calendar bugs, a dated UI, and signs of being unmaintained. Feature gaps (limited flashcards, layout issues, orientation limits) further degrade usability. Overall, Verbling works in principle, but the iOS app requires major reliability and UX fixes.
Pros
  • Core value of Verbling—connecting learners with teachers and enabling video lessons—generally works well.
  • Teacher notes are accessible and vocabulary is saved.
  • Affordable, high-quality 1-on-1 lessons when you have a good teacher.
  • Notifications and reminders before classes are helpful.
  • The platform's language-learning concept and approach are strong and valuable when the service functions.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and stability/login issues on iOS devices.
  • Scheduling and calendar bugs, including time-zone problems, invalid dates, and difficulty booking future lessons.
  • Poor UI/UX and navigation: non-intuitive icons, outdated interface, and lack of iPad landscape support.
  • App appears unmaintained or unsupported, with reports of long periods without updates.
  • Feature alerts and limitations on mobile (e.g., only five flashcards at a time, text cutoffs, inability to switch orientation) and occasional messaging/privacy bugs.

My Spanish teacher is excellent. But the app is hard to navigate. The icons are not intuitive, and the menu names are less than helpful. The interface appears to be from a previous millennium. You can spend a lot of time trying to schedule a new lesson. And it is not immediately obvious which time zone you are scheduling, which is a big problem if you travel. The audio quality makes learning a new language very difficult, although to be fair it might be in part due to my teacher’s microphone.

1) Landscape iPad support 2) Video chat background support, blur at least 3) More organized UI. Instructor overlay, presentation mode and chat are not well integrated. Look at Teams, or Zoom for UI inspiration. Can you offer more than a 15% discount ever please?
