Pros: newspaper-like reading on iPad, easy article saving, solid local coverage, and valued journalism. Cons: update glitches with occasional paywalls, losing reading position, clunky navigation and layout (no dark mode), broken puzzles/comics and removed printing, and no archives access.

Strong local San Diego County coverage.
Journalism and analysis on local issues are valued by readers.

Cons

Frequent updates degrade performance and some updates introduce paywall or login issues.
Cannot resume reading at the same place after leaving; returns to page 1.
Clunky navigation and layout; difficulty switching sections and no dark mode.
Puzzles and comics features broken (crosswords don’t work) and printing options removed.
Cannot access archives through the app.

Recent reviews

On both iPhone and iPad, scrolling the home page is horribly jumpy. Much worse on iPad. The home page will just start scrolling itself without touching the screen. Sliding up (backwards) seems to provoke it, but even that isn’t strictly necessary.

Recently in using the app the pages don’t turn when trying to read. When I swipe to turn the page it will go back to the front page, then when I click to re-open it takes forever (or doesn’t) re-open. Also, some articles won’t open when clicked on. This is a recent problem. I’ll cancel my subscription if this isn’t fixed as it’s taking too long (or not possible) to click through the paper.
