Features & Capabilities

MYCAR™ is a telematics system that turns a smartphone into a complete vehicle control hub. With the MYCAR™ app you can lock/unlock doors, remotely start or stop the engine, open the trunk, arm/disarm security, and locate your vehicle from anywhere. A professional installation is required, and the system now includes an Apple Watch app for on-wrist control.

Key features include real-time GPS location, push notifications for remote starter issues and security alerts, current vehicle status, battery level, and signal strength. It supports multiple compatible remote starters and allows up to four customizable auxiliary functions.

User Reviews

Most users praise the app's core capabilities—remote start, lock/unlock, and real-time car status—when it works. However, recurring reliability and connectivity problems, server outages, and push for upgrades/subscriptions undermine the experience. Customer support is frequently described as unhelpful or unresponsive, and some vehicles and iOS features (Siri/HomeKit, widgets) are not supported. Overall value seems contingent on hardware and vehicle compatibility; the app can be very handy, but persistent issues drive ongoing frustration.
Pros
  • Remote start, lock/unlock, and door control via the MyCar app.
  • Real-time vehicle status and GPS/location tracking (including battery status and interior temperature) in the app.
  • Worldwide remote access and convenience (control from anywhere; some users even use it with Apple Watch).
  • DIY-friendly installation for many vehicles.
Cons
  • Reliability issues: the system often fails to connect or execute commands and can be inconsistent.
  • Frequent server outages and connectivity problems (e.g., 'server not available' or cars appearing disconnected).
  • Forced upgrades and ongoing subscription costs (plus hardware upgrades to 5G) raise total cost.
  • Customer support is often unresponsive or unhelpful, with reports of poor refunds.
  • Limited compatibility and missing features (not supported for all vehicle trims; lacks Siri Shortcuts/HomeKit/widget integration).

I have had this system for years. When it works it’s awesome. Unfortunately thats only about 50% of the time I want it to use it.

I am writing to express my disappointment with MyCar Remote Start device which I purchased over 7 years. The product was great in the beginning and I was amazed at its capabilities. I started my car while I was 3000 miles away. Fast forward, I started encountering frequent malfunctions with the device to completely not working after I had a replacement part installed due to the old part no longer working because it was running on 3G or something like that. So I needed to upgrade a part in the device. Let me add that was the first time in my life paying for a replacement part that I did not cause any defect to the part. Then I had to pay the same company I purchased the starter from initially to install the replacement part. I have called Customer Support a few times with the same issue, the device fails to start my vehicle. I have gotten responses such as its your car battery that’s causing, let me see if I can start your car from my end, oh I am looking at your system now and everything looks fine; you need to have the device serviced. I never had to do that before the replacement part. I asked for a refund because the device stopped working a month after I renewed my subscription. I was told NO because whomever I spoke to at Customer Support said they are not the manufacturer. I had a new battery installed and still my remote starter does not work. Cannot afford to keep going to have it serviced when this was not my issue to start with. This problem has caused a significant inconvenience to me especially during really cold day in Chicago. I am no tech or engineer but common sense is telling me that the paid replacement part sent to me is the issue. Or spend some money on another upgrade to 5G. 4G is obsolete.
