User Reviews

RNI Flashback is loved for its playful, random film-like edits and straightforward use, delivering unique retro looks quickly. However, users repeatedly report persistence and reliability issues: saved looks don’t carry across photos, exports can fail or stall, and the app can crash. UI/device compatibility, especially on iPhone X, also shows problems. Overall a strong creative concept with notable gaps in reliability and cross-photo preservation.
Pros
  • Randomized film-style looks delivered through a simple, low-pressure interface that avoids decision paralysis.
  • Easy to use with quick results, making it great for experimentation.
  • Authentic, grainy retro aesthetics that many users feel resemble real film.
  • Fun and inspiring to explore unique edits rather than relying on presets.
Cons
  • Favorites/presets do not persist between images, making it hard to reuse a look across a shoot.
  • Saving/exporting is flaky: some photos won’t save to camera roll, and rendering can spin or stall.
  • Stability issues: the app can crash or require reinstallation to function again.
  • UI/screen compatibility problems on iPhone X (no full-screen support and awkward scaling).

I’m a fan of this sort of idea for the interface. Dice roll for the look, no overwhelming list of presets, no choice paralysis. As someone who edits photos a lot, this is low pressure, there’s a ton of achievable looks which keeps me from overthinking. I’m a fan.

I just paid a company $4.00 to reduce the resolution of my images from 24mp to 7mp. When is not apple directly, is another company that think is ok to mess with your images the way THEY WANT TO. The way I see it, they’re the boss, not us as creators.

I love photography and film, I do it for a living. It truly is as simple as clicking an icon and BAM! The app simulates a film look. If you understand it as a tool that can generate ideas for your images then you will love it, and yeah, life kinda works that way... Some of the best photos are moments, mistakes, interruptions and accidental creations.
