Features & Capabilities

Annotable is the most feature-rich, all-in-one image annotation tool for iOS. It includes standard drawing tools (rectangles, ovals, arrows, lines) and text with full customization of colors, sizes, outlines, and fonts. It also supports blur and pixelation to obscure private information, highlights using spotlights, and precise focusing with a loupe. It can even highlight text on screenshots from Notes, Twitter, Safari, and more—making it easy to share annotated pages.

Notes on compatibility and exports: Annotable works with photos and large images without cropping, supports iCloud Photo Library for edits sync, and integrates with Action Extensions, Photo Editing Extensions, and URL schemes. Distinctions from other apps include high-resolution results and broad image support beyond screenshots.

User Reviews

Users praise Annotable for its intuitive UI, robust annotation tools, and a favorable one-time purchase model plus Photos extension support. However, they frequently cite maintenance concerns (long gaps between updates), compatibility issues with newer iOS, and monetization shifts that move features behind paywalls. Restore-purchase glitches and occasional bugs further color opinions. Overall, the app remains valued for its tooling and ease of use, but concerns about updates and pricing strategy temper enthusiasm.
Pros
  • Intuitive, easy-to-use UI paired with a powerful annotation toolset.
  • Comprehensive features for marking up images, with options like borders, magnifier, auto-snap, and layering.
  • One-time purchase option for all tools (or individual tools) without a subscription.
  • Photos extension integration and good cross-device stability (iPhone and iPad).
  • Solid, reliable base that many reviewers find essential for business or personal use.
Cons
  • App seems abandoned with infrequent updates and compatibility issues on newer iOS.
  • Recent updates moved features behind paid walls (microtransactions), reducing prior free access.
  • Restore purchases and unlock issues, sometimes requiring re-purchase or login changes.
  • Bugs such as text color not changing and occasional image blur problems.
  • Some users report being unable to unlock or update after buying.

I used the free version so many times and now I just unlocked the whole thing and wish I had done it years ago. It’s a solid tool.

Love this app—it has everything you need in a tool like this & nothing you don't. It's very simple to use yet highly functional with a clean UI. It also supports Photos app integration as an extension which is handy. A handful of the tools are premium & require purchase, however you are given the option to purchase each individually or all tools (current & future) for a one-time charge of $9.99—no subscription required for those wondering.
