User Reviews

Overall, players admire Guild of Dungeoneering for its charming visuals, witty narration, and deep card-based combat that remains accessible and replayable. The game plays well on mobile and Switch, with strong atmosphere and soundtrack. However, recurrent technical issues, questions about long-term depth, value on certain platforms, and inconsistent maintenance temper enthusiasm. Many fans want more content, expansions, or a sequel, but the core experience is still highly regarded.
Pros
  • Charming art style and witty, humorous narration that enhances the experience.
  • Accessible yet deep card-based combat with meaningful loot and environment decisions; easy to pick up but hard to master.
  • High replay value with short runs or long play sessions, and good portability across devices (iPhone/iPad and Switch).
  • Strong atmosphere with appealing music and storytelling that fit the gameplay without overpowering it.
  • Desire for expansions or sequels and occasional notes about free content updates, indicating ongoing content potential.
Cons
  • Frequent technical issues: crashes on iOS, texture errors, and signs of inconsistent maintenance.
  • Long-term depth can feel shallow or repetitive; not enough varied cards or core improvements to keep content fresh.
  • Perceived value varies by platform, with some reviews calling the price high or overpriced on certain stores.
  • Early progression can be grindy or punishing, requiring significant coin to upgrade and risking stagnation.
  • Mixed maintenance sentiment: some reviews claim the game is abandoned while others report ongoing updates, creating reliability concerns.

This game made me want to throw my phone off the cruise ship I was playing on. You get stuck with not enough gold to buy the next thing and so you have to earn pennies to get to the next upgrade. So you end up just losing and losing and losing to the same tier 2 or tier 3 quest objective. The game makes on feeble attempts to give you hints on how to adjust your strategy. I don’t want to be guaranteed to win, but i also don’t want to feel stuck or trapped.

I’ve had the app for a while, and keep coming back to it. I keep hoping the team will put out a GoD 2, and if they ever do, I will be buying it the day it comes out.

App is even better. Why are you still reading this? It’s worth more than $6.
