User Reviews

Reviews frequently praise The New Yorker’s content and the app’s polished reading experience, but are dominated by access and reliability problems. The most cited issues are repeated login/subscription recognition failures that require re-signing in; inconsistent playback and glitches in the audio feature (including limited speed options and AI narrators); stability problems like endless loading or being unable to load stories after updates; friction with Conde Nast SSO sign-on; and difficulties canceling or managing subscriptions. Overall, the content is valued, but the app’s sign-in, audio, and reliability flaws frustrate long-term use.
Pros
  • Polished reading experience with a beautiful interface
  • High-quality magazine content and trusted brand
  • Audio feature is a valued part of the experience (when it works)
Cons
  • Frequent login/sign-in/out issues and subscription recognition problems requiring re-signing in
  • Audio playback issues and AI narration quality limitations (including limited speed options and some articles not playing)
  • Stability problems: endless loading or failure to load latest stories after updates
  • Conde Nast SSO sign-on friction preventing access to content
  • Difficulties canceling or managing subscriptions

I had been unhappy with the app before so I wanted to credit them for fixing the main problem—the app often didn’t save your place. As for the magazine itself it’s the only reason I like having a phone as I generally read it cover to cover; it’s the media equivalent of the Clash. It’s the only magazine that matters.

I can't stand listening to AI and all the articles use the same mono tone robotic voice it's nauseating. I literally can't pay attention to the articles because the voice sounds like I'm listening to customer service AI automated prompts. 0/10 they need to use real people to read these articles or invest in more convincing AI.
