User Reviews

The Marshall Gateway app is easy to use and versatile when it connects, with a good tuner and solid functionality on some devices. However, it suffers from persistent Bluetooth reliability problems, poor setup documentation, and unintuitive preset management. Stability and compatibility issues appear across devices, and users feel Marshall has not clearly communicated CODE lineup status. When it works, it provides strong amp control and value.
Pros
  • Easy to use and works as shown, especially via the phone app
  • Versatile control with the Marshall amp lineup and strong app integration
  • Tuner is good
  • Works across devices for some users (e.g., iPhone and iMac)
  • When it connects, the app effectively controls the amp and presets
Cons
  • Bluetooth connectivity is unreliable with frequent disconnects and pairing issues
  • Poor or missing documentation/guidance makes setup and use challenging
  • Saving and organizing presets is not intuitive and lacks clear sorting (alphabetical/numerical)
  • App stability problems include crashes and compatibility issues across devices and after updates
  • Perceived lack of ongoing Marshall support/communication for the CODE lineup and its status

I have the code 100 and it’s genuinely a good amp with some kick to it. But it can definitely use some adjustments with tone options in the app. It almost seems like every tone I make sounds the same, it’s hard for me being a metal guitarist trying to get a good heavy tone when the options are very limited. There should be more pedal options like a EQ pedal or even an EQ option somewhere else in the app for your tone. There could also definitely be more pedal options like being able to create your own with whatever you want. I feel like that would bring more variety for tone and more freedom aswell as some more fun and also even more tones to be made. Not sure if this is possible but maybe even collaborating with BOSS to bring some of their pedals and other products onto the app. Other than the tone being limiting, it’s a decent amp and is great for gigs, practice and also for bedroom playing.

I was excited to get the code 100, a Marshall made modeling amp? Exactly what I was waiting for. I found it very versatile and easy to use ESPECIALLY WITH THE PHONE APP. Marshall just walked away from it and discontinued support. It got bad reviews but I imagine that most of them were karens that were too lazy to figure it out. The general case with most modeling amps. Anyway if the system gets corrupted you are out. Moving on…
