Volume by Velocity

Volume controlled by GPS speed

Features & Capabilities

Volumatic. Control your volume automatically with your speed.

"Hands down best way to listen to podcasts and audio books in the car." - johnM “...it’s the best one out there by far." - Graham

Volumatic™ is the best app to control your music volume based on your speed. As you accelerate, an algorithm increases your volume to counteract your cars road noise.

The simple Automatic mode, uses special settings designed to optimally block road noise as well as keep you from disturbing others at lights. For those who want full control, the manual mode allows you to set the speed and volume range to best fit your taste.

If you enjoy Volumatic, please share it with your friends!

  • When Volumatic changes your device volume, iOS presents a volume changing indicator (the same one that appears when using the side buttons). This can sometimes get in the way while using other apps.

** Volumatic uses you GPS to determine your current speed. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. To keep your device charged we recommend plugging it in while using the Volumatic app.

User Reviews

Users love the app for GPS-driven automatic volume control that adapts to speed across motorcycles, cars, and boats and runs in the background with any audio source. They praise simple setup and minimal battery impact, plus versatility across devices. However, recurring complaints include confusion about auto/manual mode, stability issues where the app stops or resets, limited customization of the volume curve and lack of hardware-volume integration, and occasional battery drain reports. Overall, it’s a valuable tool with strong automation, tempered by mode clarity, reliability in some iOS versions, and customization gaps.
Pros
  • Automatic GPS-based volume control works reliably across driving scenarios (cars, motorcycles, boats).
  • Runs in the background and applies to any audio source after a simple setup.
  • Keeps volume lower at stops and slow speeds, improving conversations and safety while driving.
  • Low impact on battery; can run for hours without noticeable drain.
  • Works with multiple audio apps and Bluetooth speakers, not limited to one music app.
Cons
  • Confusion about auto vs manual mode and how to enable automatic mode; unclear workflow.
  • Stability issues: app can stop running or reset when exiting or switching presets; some reports after iOS updates.
  • Limited customization of volume curve; desire for a user-defined curve or to adjust via hardware volume controls.
  • Battery drain is reported by some users (inconsistent performance).

This app is very useful for my roadster that doesn’t have any speed control for the audio. The only thing I would really like would be a Suspend/Pause button to make the app not change the volume for a while when I want to control it manually. For now I just close the app and reopen it later.

Works great! My only questions are how to access the automatic mode that others are mentioning, and what is the purpose of the reset “switch”? Only things I’d love to see would be the ability create your own volume curve, and to increase the n= so it’s a more smooth transition (though I know that would cause the volume indicator to pop up more frequently, so maybe let the user define n based on their preferences?)

Works great, any idea how to switch between km and mph? Doesn’t show in the presets.
