User Reviews

Users say Stride is free, easy to use, and a helpful all-in-one tool for gig drivers to track miles, expenses, and taxes. However, reliability problems are common: miles are often undercounted or lost, data can reset after crashes or outages, the app may sign out or crash in the background, reminders are sporadic, and adding notes to drives is not intuitive. Despite these issues, many still rely on it for free mileage tracking and tax record keeping when it works.
Pros
  • Free to use for mileage, expenses, and basic tracking
  • Easy to use and keeps records organized in one place
  • All-in-one solution for miles, expenses, receipts, and taxes
  • Especially useful for gig workers (rideshare, delivery, freelancing)
  • Helps with taxes and deductions and supports generating reports
Cons
  • Mileage not accurately logged or undercounted in many sessions
  • Data loss occurs when the app crashes, battery dies, or outages reset mileage
  • App signs out or crashes in the background, interrupting recording
  • Reminders do not reliably trigger while driving
  • Notes/drive details are hard to add or edit

It is a very good mileage tracker but their recent change on the tax estimator makes that part literally garbage. It now assumes your tips are subject to 15.3% self employment taxes with no respect for schedule c deductions for expenses. We all know tips are still subject to self employment taxes but they don’t ignore expenses. Their estimator takes shortcuts that gives you an inaccurate view of your tax bill. Test it out, you can enter expenses that bring you to a loss and if there are tips it will still say you will owe taxes becasue of your tips which is not how that works. I will go to using a spreadsheet, stride was good because its free but I don’t need to be told I should save hundreds of dollars for a tax bill I won’t have because you are taking shortcuts to calculate it. That doesn’t help anyone. What I need is a realistic estimator that lets me know if I even need to file a quarterly payment which isn’t required before you expect to have a tax bill over 1000 for the year. All taxes are against net earnings not gross earnings so tips are reduced by expenses (which you are now calling deductions and ignoring them on the tips)

Perfect for tax tracking, except for a bug where miles disappear.
