User feedback is mixed: many praise the e-newspaper features, puzzles, and strong journalism, plus a newer, more user-friendly feel. Recurring problems include app instability, subscription management/payments failures, eNewspaper loading glitches, and a frustrating platform redesign with scattered navigation and excessive ads.

Pros

E-newspaper option provides full digital access with an easy switch between ePaper and the regular paper view.
High-quality local and national journalism with well-written, unbiased reporting.
Puzzles and crosswords are a strong, popular feature of the app.
The newer app version is more user-friendly than the old one.
E-newspaper is a good value and helps save paper.

Cons

App stability issues: won't open, crashes, or unreliable performance and login problems.
In-app subscription management and payments are problematic (renewals can fail, need to use the website, refresh purchases may not work).
E-newspaper loading glitches: won’t load, shows blank, or is slow and often requires reinstalling.
Platform redesign is scattershot and hard to follow, with duplicated content and too many ads.
General navigation feels clunky or not intuitive compared with the previous version.

Recent reviews

The log-in window rarely loads so that I can login and access subscriber content. That, and I paid for an annual subscription via Apple in March and have yet been able to activate it in the app so I’ve paid for a year of nothing.

Having access to a second paper is nice. I get the ProJo and Newport Daily News, but the Newport stories are just a repeat of the Providence ones. The algorithm should select only stories unique to the Newport paper, including town and restaurant news. And please stop with the animated gifs. I’m fine with seeing ads, and I’d even consider paying for ad free, but the moving ads make me switch away from the app.
