SmaTan blends the tactile charm of handwriting with the convenience of digital flashcards for language learning on the go. It is designed for iPhone use during commutes, so you don’t need a separate notebook.

Place English on the left page and Japanese on the right in the スマ单 notebook. When you photograph a spread, you can create 6 or 12 cards in one shot. Tap the screen to reveal answers, and use the green and red buttons to sort mastered vs. challenging cards, so the app repeatedly targets weak items for efficient memorization.
