User Reviews

Users generally praise Block or Highlight Search Engine Results for effectively removing unwanted sites from search results by domain, and for offering both hiding and highlighting options. It works with major engines (Google and DuckDuckGo) and can handle large blocking lists, which many find life-changing for research. However, the experience is not flawless: blocking is not universal across engines; some searches (notably Startpage) don’t get blocked reliably. There are limits on how many pages can be blocked and potential performance issues as the block list grows, plus occasional partial hiding. Android support and ongoing maintenance have been noted as concerns.
Pros
  • Effectively blocks/hides results by domain across Google and DuckDuckGo, cleaning up search results.
  • Offers both blocking and highlighting options for domains, giving flexible filtering.
  • Capable of handling large blocking lists (thousands of sites).
  • Significantly improves research workflow and reduces clutter, often described as life-changing.
Cons
  • Engine compatibility issues: Startpage (and some newer engines) are not reliably blocked.
  • Blocking is incomplete: some results (top or sponsored) may still appear.
  • Block list size limits and performance issues as the list grows (sync can choke).

Too many entries cause Mozilla Sync to choke, but if Mozilla Sync isn't part of the equation or you're willing to work around that limitation, it'll happily sort thousands of sites!

It worked before. Not working anymore.
