Users praise h264ify-embed-fix for reliably enabling hardware-accelerated video decoding on Firefox, outperforming other similar add-ons and improving video playback especially on embedded videos. It is valued for energy savings, reduced CPU load, and stable performance even on Firefox Nightly. While the add-on works well, users express desire for a Chrome version. Overall, it is regarded as effective and well-maintained by the community, particularly by long-term Linux users who struggled with other alternatives.
Pros
  • Effectively enables hardware-accelerated video decoding, saving energy and processing power by offloading to GPU.
  • Works better and more reliably than similar add-ons like h264ify and enhanced-h264ify.
  • Functions well with embedded videos and on Firefox Nightly builds.
  • Provides improved performance and stability compared to other YouTube-related add-ons.
  • Appreciated by long-time Linux users for its functionality and reliability.
Cons
  • Lack of a Chrome version, as requested by at least one user.

2025-01-05 Sa***** Finally smth that WORKS! I am long, long time Linux user and I tried: - without any YT addon - works like sh^&*(% - h264ify - enhanced-h264ify - refined-h264ify and even [what I initially thought it will be best] - 'Improve YouTube!' <-- biggest hangs, slow downs, lags etc. Only this addon work as it should. Thank you and keep it up!
