Gesturefy Firefox

Gesturefy

Navigate, operate, and browse faster with mouse gestures! A customizable mouse gesture add-on with a variety of different commands.

Features & Capabilities

Gesturefy is a powerful Chrome extension that enables users to navigate and operate their browser faster using mouse gestures. Unlike keyboard shortcuts, Gesturefy allows you to execute commands by moving your mouse in specific patterns while holding different mouse buttons. This extension supports over 80 predefined commands, including rocker and wheel gestures, and offers customization for gesture tracing and status styles.

Ideal for casual and power users alike, Gesturefy enhances browsing on desktop mice (not suitable for touchpads) with multilingual support and multiple themes including light, dark, and high contrast. While it has some limitations, such as non-functionality on Mozilla internal pages and partial incompatibility with MacOS Sierra wheel gestures, it offers a natural and convenient way to boost productivity and streamline browsing tasks.

User Reviews

Overall, Gesturefy is praised for boosting productivity with fast, smooth, highly configurable mouse gestures and easy installation, making it a daily-use productivity tool. Users cite its feature richness and ability to streamline browsing. However, several drawbacks appear across reviews: updates can reset gestures; some Firefox versions cause feature breaks (notably with [Popup] Search engines); it lags behind Chrome equivalents in functionality (left-click and modifier keys not supported; some actions unreliable); and certain focus options for new tabs are missing, hindering some workflows.
Pros
  • Significant productivity boost with fast, smooth, natural-feeling gestures.
  • Highly feature-rich and customizable with many options.
  • Easy to install and generally user-friendly.
  • Daily-use staple that saves clicks and improves workflow.
  • Firefox-focused experience that feels superior to Chrome gesture extensions.
Cons
  • Gestures reset after each update.
  • Breakage in certain Firefox versions (e.g., FF 148.0 affecting [Popup] Search engines).
  • Not as capable as Chrome's CrxMouse (no left-click or modifier keys; some features unreliable like save image).
  • Some features (Save image, Search text) frequently fail.
  • Missing focus controls for new tabs (no option to auto-focus new tab for certain commands).

It was good while it lasted. Now it keeps forgetting all the gestures. Not sure whose fault it is - Firefox’s or the extension’s.

High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Gesturefy requires a few sensitive permissions. Exercise caution before installing.
