User reviews

Users appreciate Yet another autoplay blocker for effectively stopping autoplay videos on many sites, including Yahoo and news platforms, enhancing browsing by keeping videos paused and silent. It also helps users with data caps by limiting bandwidth use. However, issues persist with sites like Fox News and Twitter, causing playback problems. The extension lacks features such as a whitelist and default blocking settings, and its alpha status and inconsistent performance on page refreshes reduce reliability. Despite this, many find it superior to other blockers and valuable overall.
Pros
  • Effectively blocks autoplay videos on many news sites and platforms where other blockers fail, such as Yahoo and certain newspaper sites.
  • Simple to use and configures videos to open paused and silent, improving user browsing experience.
  • Reliable performance on multiple browsers like Chrome, Brave, and Arc for macOS, making web browsing more peaceful.
  • Provides a solution for users with data caps by preventing unwanted video autoplay and bandwidth usage.
  • Works well on popular sites like YouTube and Facebook for stopping autoplay videos.
Cons
  • Does not work consistently on all websites, notably fails on Fox News and some videos powered by anyclip.com.
  • Causes video playback issues on Twitter, including stuttering and broken playback post-Elon takeover.
  • Lacks advanced features such as a whitelist option or default settings to keep autoplay blocked on all sites unless manually changed.
  • Inconsistent behavior upon page refreshes and sometimes requires manual toggling or disabling per site for proper function.
  • The extension has not been updated recently and appears to be in alpha stage, which can affect stability and compatibility.

Finally! This is the sixth one I've tried and it's been the only one that works. For reference, I'm using Chrome Version 126.0.6478.127 on a Windows 11 run bespoke PC.

Given this extension hasn't been updated and is still basically an alpha version, it works really well to stop videos autoplaying. Its biggest problem is that on X (fka Twitter) it makes those videos stutter badly when you do try to play them. I have to turn off YAAB for X videos. Works fine in Arc for macOS.
