Download Manager

A less intrusive way to access your recent downloads

Download Manager replaces Chrome's downloads bar with a sleek toolbar icon that integrates seamlessly into your browser. Styled to mimic the native extensions menu, it offers a less intrusive way to manage your recent downloads. You can access your download list anytime from the toolbar or optionally display it in the browser sidebar.

Key features include quick search through recent downloads, a badge count displaying download statuses, the ability to pause and resume downloads, and convenient options to clear download history or delete downloaded files directly from the popup. Additionally, you can open files in their default application or browser, access the folder containing the download, and receive notifications upon download completion. Keyboard shortcuts such as Alt-J to open the popup enhance usability.

Ideal for users seeking a streamlined and efficient way to control their downloads without clutter, this extension boosts productivity and keeps your download management tidy and accessible.

User reviews

Users appreciate the Download Manager extension for its clean design, ease of use, and customizable notifications, making download management more convenient compared to default browser tools. However, common issues include persistent error badges and history counts that do not clear, frequent Chrome freezing especially with heavy downloads, and missing features like a clear all downloads button and keyboard shortcuts. Users also note usability limitations such as inability to open files directly from notifications and small or delayed UI elements. Overall, while functional and well designed, stability and feature completeness need improvement.
Pros
  • Clean and user-friendly interface with good design.
  • Provides convenient access to downloads with customizable notifications.
  • Supports dark mode option.
  • Works well as a replacement or enhancement over default browser download management.
  • Lightweight and simple to use for essential download management tasks.
Cons
  • Red badge count and download history sometimes do not clear properly, causing persistent misleading notifications.
  • Causes Chrome to freeze or lock up, especially with many downloads or on startup.
  • Lacks essential features such as 'Clear all downloads' button and keyboard shortcuts for opening sidebar or clearing downloads.
  • Cannot open downloaded files directly from notifications, only open folder or delete file.
  • Some UI elements (text size and icons) are too small or delayed, reducing usability.

It's okay. It did it's job much like how I'm used to on other browsers like Firefox. It has the best UI out of all the others I've seen. But even after clearing downloads history, it still shows the numbers in red on the icon corner (for errors), and the tab list still has the history...both of which does not go away. So I have no idea why it still wants to remember that info when my browser itself doesn't after clearing it. I see no other way to clear the history or get rid of the red numbers on the icons, so I had to uninstall and keep looking for an alternative download manager.

Chrome keeps on freezing since I've installed this. Clearly I'm not the only one this is happening to. Good idea, unusable under its current state.

Freezes chrome on start-up if you have many downloads. It also freezes chrome sometimes while the browser is running.
