Enable Select

This plugin helps enable text selection on websites. https://github.com/sarthakjain95/EnableSelect

Features & Capabilities

Enable Select is a convenient Chrome extension designed to enable text selection on websites that prevent copying by disabling standard selection methods. Simply click the extension icon and activate it for the current site to regain control over text on blocked pages. It's open source, providing transparency and community trust, and changes CSS properties to allow text selection.

While effective, Enable Select may sometimes lead to minor unexpected behavior on web pages due to CSS modifications. It utilizes Browser Storage API and may take a few seconds to apply changes. For any issues or feedback, users can contact the developer at saarthakjain95@gmail.com. Enable Select is a simple yet powerful tool to enhance your browsing and improve productivity when dealing with restricted content.

User Reviews

User feedback is mixed: several people praise the add-on for enabling text selection and succeeding where others failed, while a similar number report it doesn’t work for them. The dominant points are that it can be effective and helpful, but its reliability varies and it fails on some sites with stronger protections.
Pros
  • Enables text selection on many websites — multiple users reported it worked for them.
  • Succeeded where other extensions failed — several users said this was the only add-on that worked.
  • Helped users complete tasks — reviewers explicitly thanked the developer or said it allowed them to accomplish what they needed.
Cons
  • Inconsistent effectiveness — several reviews say it did not work for them.
  • Not universal — some sites still block text selection and the extension fails on those pages.
  • Mixed user experience — multiple reviewers report it either works well or doesn’t work at all, indicating variable reliability.
Recent reviews
This didn't work in the specific situation I wanted it to where trying to highlight text resulted in a drag action instead of highlighting the text.

Works but may change webpage layout (on, e.g., music.apple.com, say song/all-my-love/1834275218). I can see the svg element occupies some space after toggling the checkbox.
