Remove FBclid and UTM

Removes fbclid and utm_ query parameters in URLs.

The Remove FBclid and UTM Chrome extension automatically strips away fbclid and utm_ query parameters from URLs. This results in cleaner, more readable links and reduces the potential for tracking from these parameters embedded by social media or marketing campaigns. By cleaning URLs on the fly, this extension enhances user privacy and improves link sharing aesthetics. It's a lightweight, privacy-friendly tool ideal for users wanting to avoid unnecessary tracking and messy URLs.

User reviews

Users appreciate the extension for effectively removing tracking parameters before page load, with minimal code and reliable performance on many sites. However, several report it breaks key features on LinkedIn and Spotify web player. It sometimes mishandles URLs by adding equal signs, misencoding UTF-8 characters, or improperly converting spaces, leading to errors or infinite redirects. The lack of site-specific exclusions increases usability issues on affected sites, suggesting a need for improved compatibility and whitelist features.
Pros
  • Effectively removes fbclid and UTM tracking parameters before the page loads, improving user privacy.
  • Lightweight and simple extension with minimal code.
  • Works well for most websites and is regarded as the only functional option by some users.
  • Provides a seamless experience by stripping tracking info preemptively, not after page load.
Cons
  • Causes issues on some websites, notably LinkedIn, breaking search, messaging, and profile features.
  • Breaks Spotify web player functionality, causing songs not to play or to be silent.
  • Alters URLs incorrectly by adding extra equal signs or re-encoding UTF-8 characters improperly.
  • Changes %20 encoded spaces to plus signs (+), causing infinite redirects with certain search engines.
  • No option to whitelist or exclude specific sites where functionality breaks.

it works but occasionally breaks request with query string which is not formatted in key-value pairs. e.g. http://foo/?non_keyvalue_pair_string => Internal Redirect => http://foo/?non_keyvalue_pair_string=

It does what it says. BUT, it breaks some websites. Biggest example is LinkedIn. Search, messaging and many other features stop working when this extension is active.
