Webp is a file format that is supported by browsers, however has limited support in other forms of software, like image manipulation software, text editors, video editors and more. Webp-- allows you to easily save and copy these images to other software, without having to convert it to webp using 3rd party software. The extentsion converts to the data url format with png encoding, and allows users to copy/save/copy URL to that resource using the data url.
