Duplicate Tab Firefox

Duplicate Tab

Duplicates the current tab from keyboard shortcuts or when you click the icon Source, issues: https://github.com/Skeletonxf/duplicate-tab/

Features & Capabilities

Duplicate Tab is a simple yet powerful browser extension that allows users to quickly duplicate their current tab with a single keyboard shortcut or by clicking the extension icon. This eliminates the need for manual copy-pasting of URLs to open second instances of tabs. The default shortcut is ALT+SHIFT+D, but users can customize shortcuts to avoid conflicts with existing browser shortcuts.

While modern browsers like Firefox have built-in duplicate tab functions, this extension adds convenience with its customizable shortcuts and toolbar icon. It is designed to seamlessly integrate with browser functionality and respects platform limitations, such as the current lack of keyboard shortcut support on Android. Active development is hosted on GitHub, making it open source and transparent.

Overall, Duplicate Tab streamlines browsing workflows by enabling quick duplication of tabs, saving time and effort for users who frequently reference or compare multiple pages.

User Reviews

Users appreciate that the Duplicate Tab add-on introduces keyboard shortcuts to duplicate tabs, filling a gap in Firefox's default features, with good cross-platform support. However, many report issues with the default shortcut conflicting with built-in Firefox shortcuts and limited shortcut customization, especially across different localizations. Some users note the duplicated tab opens at the end of the tab strip rather than beside the original tab. There is also a slight delay in tab activation after duplication. Overall, it is a helpful and simple tool but could improve shortcut flexibility and additional features.
Pros
  • Provides a keyboard shortcut for duplicating tabs, which is not built into Firefox by default.
  • Works well on multiple platforms including Android, Windows, and macOS.
  • Duplicates tabs next to the original tab, maintains browsing history, and is simple and neat to use.
Cons
  • Default keyboard shortcut conflicts with existing Firefox shortcuts and cannot override them, causing confusion.
  • Shortcut customization is sometimes limited or complicated by localization issues, leading to difficulty configuring desired shortcuts.
  • Duplicated tabs open at the end of the tab row instead of next to the active tab, which diminishes usability for some users.
  • There is a delay before the duplicated tab becomes active after duplication.
  • Lacks some requested features such as duplication in different containers or double-click duplication functionality.

It works but throws the duplicate at the end of the row, but not next to the currently active tab which to me... defeats the whole purpose of having this extension.

It is strange to me that there is no built in tab duplication shortcutkey. This adds one and it works. Thank you.
