doqment PDF Reader

Firefox's PDF Viewer with Reader Mode: change the colours of PDFs while reading.

doqment PDF Reader is a customized version of Firefox's PDF viewer that introduces a Reader Mode with adjustable color themes, including light and dark modes, to improve the comfort of long PDF reading sessions. It supports handy features such as smart zooming on text under the mouse and the ability to hide or show the toolbar for an unobstructed reading experience, especially useful on smaller screens.

The extension includes keyboard shortcuts like Alt+Q to open a new PDF reader tab, Z for smart zoom, F3 to toggle the toolbar, and Ctrl +/- for PDF zooming. Viewer preferences can be adjusted through the extension's settings, making it flexible to user needs. doqment encourages disabling Firefox's built-in PDF viewer for optimal performance. This open-source extension respects privacy by not collecting any user data, providing a secure and customizable PDF reading experience.

User reviews

Users praise doqment PDF Reader for its excellent dark mode, color theme options, and annotation capabilities that surpass other PDF viewers, making it highly favored for research and general use. However, repeated issues include the lack of automatic dark mode syncing with the system, difficulties opening PDFs directly without drag-and-drop, and limited file handling features such as retaining original file names. Some users also report occasional unexpected failures possibly linked to updates.
Pros
  • Provides a superior dark mode for PDF reading that is comfortable for the eyes, better than other professional PDF viewers.
  • Allows color theme customization for PDF backgrounds, enhancing readability and visual comfort.
  • Includes features like embedded annotations that improve academic or research PDF usage.
  • Performance and design are appreciated, making it a favorite and straightforward PDF viewer for Firefox users.
  • Open-source nature and active development with useful features beyond Firefox's built-in PDF reader.
Cons
  • Dark mode does not automatically sync with system dark/light mode.
  • PDFs cannot be opened directly within the extension tab without drag-and-drop; opening PDF links often requires saving the file first.
  • Unable to open PDFs by simply dragging files into the doqment tab; PDFs open in new tabs or replace existing ones instead.
  • No option to restore original PDF file names when saving or opening within the add-on.
  • Recent reports of the extension suddenly not working, possibly due to browser or system updates.

Darkmode should work automatically. Add an option to always show the pdf with same zoom you want.

doesnt open pdfs when dragged into doqment tab, pdf just opens in a new tab or replaces doqment tab entirely. not even intended to open pdf links from google without you saving pdf to hard drive first, but at least the open option works from the toolbar.
