The extension updates on it's own, showing you an indicator of how many hangouts are active. Simply click on the icon in your Chrome browser and view who is in the hangouts listed then join, comment or even +1 them from the drop down window of the extension.

So many of us have been asking for an extension or program that does this, OMG Thank you so so much for making this, from all of us! Now I am jumping in all kinds of hangouts and meeting all these new awesome people. A huge difference from being barely able to find any hangouts happening, which I have been so used too up till now.
