User reviews
AppBlock is effective and well-designed for managing phone usage, with powerful features like strict mode, schedules, and app/website blocking. Users praise its positive impact on productivity and phone habits. However, multiple reviews note drawbacks such as paywalls for key features, strict mode applying globally without flexibility, vulnerabilities allowing circumvention (e.g., safe mode or widgets), bugs causing continuous blocking loops, and weak uninstall protection. Overall, it's a helpful, feature-rich app but with notable areas needing improvement.
Pros
- Effective in helping users reduce phone addiction and improve productivity.
- Well-designed with intuitive interface and versatile features like strict mode and allow lists.
- Offers customizable schedules and powerful control over app/blocking behavior.
- Useful screen time statistics and website blocking functionality.
- Reasonably priced premium subscription with helpful ongoing updates.
Cons
- Some features are behind a premium subscription which users find restrictive or overpriced.
- Strict mode applies globally and cannot be selectively applied or paused for individual schedules.
- App can be circumvented by booting into safe mode or using widgets that bypass restrictions.
- Occasional bugs with blocking behavior such as infinite loops or blocking even when paused.
- Uninstallation protection feature is insufficient or delayed, allowing users to uninstall despite warnings.

Works well, until you have to pay a PREMIUM MEMBERSHIP subscription to get any actual functionaliy. They already show you ads after doing basic stuff, so they are really trying to suck the money off of you. I get you need to support development, but some of the features that they pay wall really shouldn't be.

I understand that some new features are now behind a subscription, but why is the app showing upselling pop-up ads to premium users during normal usage? Sure, show them when we try to enable those features, but displaying them during normal usage is an insult to those of us who paid premium. Edit: it happened while opening a blocked website repeatedly with Samsung internet (it remembered the tab) however I can't reproduce it again so I'm restoring the original score. Thanks.
