User Reviews

Users overwhelmingly find Context Search very useful for quick, customizable searches and praise its engine support and shortcuts. Top complaints are a new privacy/data-collection warning, updates that break or reset settings (ESR problems), and persistent, unremovable UI elements (AI/search-bar items); some also cite unwanted extra search engines and feature bloat.
Pros
  • Highly useful and time-saving for quick context searches—many users call it indispensable.
  • Supports many search engines and makes adding/backing up engines easy, enabling flexible, site-specific searches.
  • Provides convenient shortcuts/options (including a keybind) that speed up searching without opening new tabs.
  • Restores or preserves familiar workflow for longtime users; many say it’s the same reliable add-on they used before.
Cons
  • Privacy warning flagged in recent versions: "Required data collection: search terms" (users worry search terms may be sent).
  • Recent updates often break functionality, reset or fail to save settings, and have compatibility issues (noted with Firefox ESR).
  • Persistent UI elements that users can’t remove (e.g., an "AI Search" context menu item or search-bar suggestion/icon).
  • Perceived bloat: additional/default-enabled search engines and extra features some users don’t want.

New review October 10, 2025: Suddenly it needs to collect "search terms" AHAHA no bro. no. that's completely unnecessary. Original review: i mean it works...but why can't I remove the "AI search" button at all??? Why do devs have to force AI into everything Edit: still no way to reply on dev response here? When I right click on any page, There's an "AI Search" on the bottom of my main context menu. I cannot remove this via any option for the extension. This is even when I right-click on images. It has this extension's icon next to it and disabling the extension removes it so I know it's from this icon. I can only assume it was an oversight to force it enabled when most other things can be disabled in the options. I've been using the old version for as long as I can remember so I really like the extension but I don't want to even see any AI stuff so I hope I can remove this somehow.

Required data collection: search terms. sounds very fishy. i would not update!

A very useful and convenient add-on (although some things broke with version 6). But since version 6.2.5: "Required data collection: search terms". So this could send your search history to the developer. An absolute no-go. Goodbye.

High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Context Search requires some sensitive permissions that could impact your browser and data security. Exercise caution before installing.
