Container Bookmarks Firefox

Container Bookmarks

Allows you to open bookmarks in containers.

Features & Capabilities

Container Bookmarks is a Firefox extension that allows you to open bookmarks in specific containers, enhancing browsing isolation and organization. It simplifies a workaround concept by letting you assign containers to bookmarks directly via an intuitive popup. When saving a bookmark, you can select the container where it should open, and the extension manages redirection to ensure the site launches inside the chosen container.

With support for editing container bookmarks through a context menu and configurable redirect keys, this extension offers flexible management of containerized browsing. It leverages permissions like bookmarks, contextual identities, and webRequest to seamlessly integrate container functionality with bookmarks, perfect for users utilizing Firefox Multi-Account Containers for privacy and productivity.

User Reviews

Users like that the add‑on lets you set default containers for bookmarks/folders, saves clicks, and enables same‑page bookmarks to open in different containers. Repeated complaints focus on intrusive popup/dialog behavior (including severe popup loops on import/restore), small or external dialog windows, and occasional compatibility/inconsistent behavior that prevents bookmarks opening in the assigned container or bypassing the container confirmation.
Pros
  • Assigns a default container to bookmarks or entire folders so they open in the chosen container.
  • Saves time and clicks; many call it a clever workaround for Firefox lacking built‑in support.
  • Allows multiple bookmarks of the same page to open in different containers (useful with Multi‑Account Containers).
  • Includes an option to disable the create‑bookmark popup (users often recommend turning this off).
Cons
  • Popup/dialog behavior is intrusive for some users (annoying by default; several report popup loops during restore/import that consumed memory).
  • Dialog/UX problems: windows can be too small or open in a separate OS window, leading to a poor experience.
  • Inconsistent or incompatible behavior on some setups: bookmarks may not open in the assigned container, it won’t always bypass the container confirmation dialog, and some Firefox versions reportedly fail.
  • Stability risk during bookmark import/restore reported by multiple users (dialog flooding requiring disabling the add‑on).
Recent reviews
Even after installing this add-on and configuring it to open bookmarks in a specific container, a prompt asking, “Do you want to open this site in the assigned container?” still appears. Is this the add-on’s default behavior? I was under the impression that this add-on was supposed to open bookmarks directly in a specific container without displaying this prompt.

This approach no longer works with sync: the extension installation ID is different per browser, and your bookmarked links will only work on a single device.
