SMS Messenger: Home Screen

SMS Messenger: Home Screen brings your text-message inbox and an Android app launcher into one application.

Use the messaging features for carrier SMS/MMS, scheduled texts and local SMS backup. Use the optional home screen for apps, shortcuts, widgets, clock information and quick access to your messages.

The app does not require account registration or login.

CHOOSE YOUR DEFAULT SMS APP

Android controls which application can act as the default SMS handler.

After you choose SMS Messenger: Home Screen through the system dialog, messaging functions become available. Read conversation history, compose messages, reply to contacts and receive notifications for new messages.

On compatible dual-SIM phones, an available SIM can be selected for outgoing messages.

Your carrier, SIM and mobile plan determine whether SMS/MMS is available, whether a message is delivered and whether charges apply.

MESSAGE ORGANISATION

Search through message content and explore the conversation categories available in the app.

Use pinning for important conversations and archive threads you do not want in the primary inbox. Read/unread status can be controlled locally.

Unwanted conversations may be blocked manually.

When an incoming message contains a recognised one-time code, an available copy option can make it easier to copy the code. This is not an identity-verification feature and the app does not provide financial services.

ATTACH AND SHARE

Select supported photos, videos or audio through Android's picker.

A photo may also be captured through an available camera app, and selected contact details can be included in a message.

If optional location sharing is used, approximate-location access is required so a map link can be inserted into the draft.

Recipients and message contents should always be reviewed before sending.

SCHEDULE MESSAGES

Prepare a text in advance and select a later time for it to be sent.

Pending scheduled-message information and references to attachments are saved locally while waiting. You can cancel a schedule before the send action occurs.

Exact-alarm access can be required on some supported Android versions.

At the scheduled time, successful sending still depends on the app being the active SMS handler, having the required permissions and having access to a working SIM and network service.

A schedule should therefore not be treated as a guarantee of exact-time delivery.

BACKUP AND RESTORE SMS

Open Backup and restore from the Messages navigation menu.

Choose a destination folder through Android's system file picker and tap Backup now to create a JSON backup of supported SMS text messages.

To restore, select a compatible backup file, review how many messages have been found and confirm the import.

MMS attachments are not backed up. The app also does not create automatic scheduled backups.

The default SMS role is required during backup and restoration.

When restoration finishes, you can either continue using SMS Messenger: Home Screen or open Android's default-app settings to choose another SMS app.

Changing the default later does not remove messages that have already been imported into Android's SMS store.

Backup files are not encrypted by the application. Keep them in a trusted folder and share them only when you intend to.

APPS, SHORTCUTS AND WIDGETS

Choose SMS Messenger: Home Screen separately as the Android Home app to use its launcher.

Open installed applications from the app drawer, keep selected favourites convenient, organise shortcuts and place supported Android widgets using the built-in picker.

The launcher also displays a clock and date and provides useful access to the message inbox and composer.

Android treats the Home role and default SMS role separately. SMS permission is requested for messaging functionality, not simply for displaying your home screen.
