Phones talk to each other directly using Bluetooth, Wi-Fi Aware and local Wi-Fi — no cell tower, no internet, no server in the middle. Each phone also passes messages along for others, so your group stays connected across a wider area than any single phone could reach.

Range over local mesh depends on your surroundings — open ground gives far more than a building with thick walls. More phones nearby means better coverage, because each one extends the mesh.

On a channel without a passphrase, anyone nearby running the app can hear you, like an ordinary walkie-talkie. Set a passphrase for privacy.
