easyAIS

easyAIS is a free, real-time vessel positioning tool designed for AIS receivers with WiFi connectivity, specifically compatible with easyTRX WiFi devices. Utilizing the Automatic Identification System (AIS) defined by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), this extension helps improve maritime safety and environmental protection by enabling collision avoidance, traffic management, and remote ship identification even beyond visual range.

The app features a virtual radar-like interface displaying AIS targets relative to the user's position within a range of 20 to 30 nautical miles. Users can tap on any AIS target to access detailed information such as GPS position, speed, course, ship name, call sign, dimensions, draft, and port of registration. Note that easyAIS obtains AIS data over WiFi from onboard AIS receivers or transceivers but should not be used for official navigational purposes.
