Smalltalk Phone

Best friends start with Smalltalk.

It's a corded home phone for your child. No screen, no apps, nothing to scroll. It only calls, and only rings for, the people you approve. This app is your side of it.

REMEMBER WHEN THE PHONE RANG FOR YOU?

A number learned by heart. Calling Grandma to tell her about the day. Making weekend plans all by yourself. Smalltalk brings that back, with only the people you choose on the line.

YOU CHOOSE WHO CAN CALL

The list starts empty, and nobody joins it without you. Grandma, a cousin, the friend down the street: you add each one. Strangers can't get through. That's enforced on our network, not only in the app.

WHAT YOU DO IN THE APP

• Add and remove the people who can call.
• Set quiet hours for bedtime, school and homework, for one person or the whole phone. Your own calls still ring through.
• Lock the phone from wherever you are, and unlock it just as fast.
• Call your child from the app, and answer when they call you.
• See a plain record of calls: who, when and how long.
• Put favourite people on the number keys. Your child holds a key to call them.
• Choose the town for the weather on the Village Station, or turn it off.
• Pick an animal face for each contact.
• Share your child's contact with another family, and bring the other grown-ups into your village.

ON THE PHONE

• The first two keys in the top row call the parents. There's nothing to set up.
• The third key calls the Village Station: today's weather and what to wear, or a story where your child chooses what happens next.
• Speed dials on the number keys.

BEFORE YOU DECIDE

The phone can't call ordinary phone numbers, send messages, take photos or go online. It stays at home, plugged in, on your Wi-Fi. That's the whole idea of it.

You'll need a Smalltalk phone for this app to do anything. Smalltalk is a Canadian company, run from Toronto. Family records are stored in Canada, and a person in Toronto answers when you write to us. Not currently offered in Quebec.
