Rilo

Rilo is a calling app for children who are too young for a phone of their own — and for the grown-ups who decide who they may talk to.

WHO YOUR CHILD CAN REACH
Only people you have added yourself. There is no search, no directory, no discovery and no friend suggestions. A new contact starts with a one-time invite from a grown-up — scanned by holding two phones together, or sent to somebody who is far away — and it only becomes real once a grown-up on each side has approved it. A stranger cannot reach your child, because there is no route through the app by which they could.

WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE TO A CHILD
A grid of faces. Hold one to call it. That is the whole app — no menus to get lost in, no text to read, nothing to buy, nowhere else to go. It works for a child who cannot read yet.

WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE TO A GROWN-UP
An ordinary app, behind a lock only you can open. You approve every contact, you can turn calling or messaging off for any person at any time, and you can remove someone permanently. Your face or your passcode is asked for before any decision that changes who can reach your child.
Rilo keeps its own light colours in day and night mode alike. A child navigates by colour, and a screen that changes character is a screen they have to learn twice.

WHAT WE CANNOT SEE
Calls and messages are end-to-end encrypted between the two phones. We are not able to read, hear or watch any of it — not because we promise not to, but because the keys never leave the devices. Our server holds a short list of technical things and does not hold your child's name, your address book or your photos. The whole of it is written out, table by table, on our website.

WHAT IT COSTS
Free to install and set up. A subscription covers everyone in one family — one grown-up pays, every child and every other grown-up is included.

MADE IN THE EU
Rilo is built and hosted in Europe and is available in the European Union only.
