Sawbench: Woodworking Plans

Plan it right, then build it once.

Sawbench turns "I want to build a table" into a complete plan you can take to the lumberyard and the workbench. Pick what you're building, type your sizes, and Sawbench builds the whole piece from real lumber: a 2x4 is 1 1/2" × 3 1/2" here, just like at the store.

★ 24 READY DESIGNS, AT YOUR SIZES
Dining table, coffee table, desk, workbench, bookshelf, chest of drawers, TV stand, platform bed, garden bed, picture frame, sawhorse, toy chest and more. Change the length, width and height, and every board is worked out again. Then change anything you like: move a board, swap its lumber, add doors or drawers.

★ A DESIGN CHECK THAT THINKS LIKE A WOODWORKER
Before you cut, Sawbench checks your design for what goes wrong in real life: shelves that sag, frames that wobble, tall pieces that could tip, tops that will split as the wood moves with the seasons, and tables that leave no room for your knees. Each problem comes with a plain explanation and, often, a one-tap fix.

★ THE CUT LIST AND CUTTING DIAGRAMS
Every piece with its finished size and a letter to write on it. Diagrams show how to cut each board so almost nothing goes to waste, and which offcuts are worth keeping.

★ THE SHOPPING LIST, WITH PRICES
Exactly which boards, sheets, screws and hardware to buy, with typical prices. Type in what your store charges and Sawbench remembers it next time. For hardwood, it tells you what to ask for at the lumberyard.

★ CHOOSE THE WOOD, AND KNOW WHY
Pine, poplar, oak, maple, walnut, cherry, cedar and more, each judged for the piece you're building: why it suits, or why it doesn't. See it painted or stained before you buy, and set a budget.

★ STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Every step in order, with pictures, exact measurements and which screws go where. Build mode (Pro) puts one step at a time on the screen in big print for the bench, keeps the screen on, and remembers where you got to.

★ THE TOOLS YOU NEED
Sawbench lists the tools each project needs. Tell it what you have, and it suggests another way to do any job you don't have the tool for.

★ FREE, OR PRO
Designing, the design check, the cut list and diagrams, the shopping list, the wood advice and every step are free, for up to 3 projects. Sawbench Pro is $2.99 a month or $19.99 a year, with the first 7 days free, and adds:

★ AND THE REST
• Works without an internet connection

Sawbench is for anyone who builds with wood, from your first bookshelf to a dining table for the family.

Sawbench's plans are a careful guide, not a guarantee. Lumber is never exactly its label: measure your own boards, check every measurement before you cut, and work safely.
