Offline woodworking calculator: cut list, sheet nesting, board-feet and cost
Plan the whole project before you touch the saw. Sawmetry Woodwork turns a simple parts list into a nested sheet-cutting layout, a finish estimate, and a complete material budget — all on your bench, all offline.
Enter your parts as thickness x width x length with a quantity and a wood species, and the app does the shop math for you: total board-feet, how the pieces pack onto your stock plywood, how many quarts of finish you need, and what the whole build will cost.
WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT
Most calculators stop at a number. Sawmetry runs a real sheet-nesting engine. It takes every part on your cut list, sorts them largest-first, and packs them onto your stock sheets using an FFD (First-Fit Decreasing) shelf layout that respects your saw kerf. You get an amber needle gauge showing sheet utilization (78%, and it turns green once you clear 75%), a to-scale visual cut map of each panel, and a log of the usable offcuts left over — down to the 1/16 inch, like "95 3/4 inch x 23 3/8 inch usable plank." When your parts need more panels than you have in stock, it flags a recommended extra sheet so you know exactly what to buy.

Project cut list with per-part thickness, width, length, quantity and timber species, plus a running board-feet total
2D sheet packing via kerf-aware First-Fit Decreasing nesting, with a per-sheet tab selector
Efficiency gauge with a monospace utilization readout that shifts red to amber to green as your layout tightens up
Visual sheet cut map drawn to scale, showing every part placed on the panel with its coordinates
Remaining offcut logs in real fractional inches, so you know what usable stock is left
Finish quantity and coats estimator with presets for Polyurethane, Stain, Varnish and Paint (each with its true per-quart coverage rate) and a Litres conversion
Financial summary that adds up solid wood, sheet goods, finishes and a hardware line into one grand-total estimate

Save any quick calculation straight into your wood library
Duplicate a project as a template and reuse it for the next build
HOW IT WORKS
Add your hardwood species and stock sheet goods to the material database.
Create a project and fill in the cut list, part by part.
Open the Packing Map to see how the parts nest, check the utilization gauge, and read off the offcuts.
Set your finish, coats and surface area to get the quarts and cost.
Open the Financial Summary for the grand total and copy the BOM CSV for your records.
PERFECT FOR
Hobbyist woodworkers building bookcases, shelves, tables, cabinets and boxes
Makers who buy sheet goods and hardwood by the board-foot and want to cut waste
Anyone who wants a fast board-feet calculator plus a genuine sheet-nesting map without a subscription
Entry is imperial (inches, feet, quarts, board-feet); metric equivalents appear as read-only auxiliary readouts (cubic metres, Litres).
PRIVACY
Every project, cut list and material lives in a local sandboxed database on your device. No account, no sign-in, no cloud sync, no tracking, and no ads. You can wipe everything from Settings whenever you want.
Stop guessing at the lumber yard. Build your cut list, tighten the layout, and know the cost before the first cut.
