Vault Contacts — Private

Encrypt private contacts locally with decoy access and secure backups.

Overview

Features & Capabilities

Private contacts that stay under your control.

Vault Contacts is an encrypted contacts app: a private address book for names, phone numbers, emails, addresses, dates and notes, stored encrypted on the device. No sign-up, no account, no server holding a copy just in case. Your contacts leave the phone only when you save a backup, share a contact or export a file yourself.

📵 NO INTERNET — AND YOU CAN CHECK

Vault Contacts and its embedded libraries cannot directly open network connections. No ads, no analytics, no trackers, no advertising ID. No internet permission. Contact access is requested only when you choose to import contacts.

🔐 ENCRYPTION AND SECURE ACCESS

• Contact fields are encrypted with AES-256-GCM, using a key created inside the device's secure hardware that never leaves the phone
• PIN or password on entry (PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256, 120,000 iterations), plus unlock with supported device biometrics, such as fingerprint or secure face authentication
• Delays after wrong attempts: three tries, then 30 seconds, then 3 minutes; the countdown survives a restart
• Auto-lock after idle time and when the screen turns off
• App content hidden in the task switcher

🎭 DECOY VAULT AND DURESS CODE

• A separate decoy credential opens an independent, harmless contact list while the real vault remains concealed
• An optional duress code permanently deletes the real local vault from the app and opens the decoy without an additional confirmation
• Inside the decoy vault, the settings for those codes are not shown

👤 A REAL CONTACTS APP, NOT JUST A LOCKED LIST

• Unlimited phone numbers and email addresses per person, any one can be the primary
• Messengers and social profiles — the network is detected from the link
• Addresses and dates with your own labels (birthdays and anything else), notes
• A photo from the camera or gallery, cropped in the app; without one, a monogram of the initials
• Favourites on top, alphabet grouping, fast scrolling with a letter bubble
• Numbers are shown formatted for your SIM's region and stored exactly as typed

📞 ONE-TAP ACTIONS

Call straight from the list, without opening the contact. From the contact: call, text, open a messenger, write an email, open a profile, get directions — when there is more than one value, the app asks which. Any field is copied with a tap, and the clipboard clears a minute later.

🔎 SEARCH THAT FINDS

Search runs across names, numbers, emails and notes at once, the match is highlighted, and numbers match by digits — +1 555 is found by typing 1555.

♻️ NOTHING GETS LOST

• Trash keeps deleted contacts as long as you choose (30 days by default), one tap brings them back
• The duplicate finder matches a shared number or the same full name and merges the two without losing anything
• Import from your device contacts or from a .vcf file: you see what will be added and what will be filled in beforehand, and importing twice never creates copies

💾 A BACKUP THAT BELONGS TO YOU

A backup is a single encrypted file, and where it goes is up to you. It is protected by a twelve-word recovery phrase shown once and never stored by the app. With the phrase, the backup can be restored on another supported device. Without it, neither you nor we can recover the backup. Restoring adds contacts to what is there and merges the matching ones. You can also export everything to a plain .vcf file — your data is not locked in.

⚖️ HONEST ABOUT WHAT IT DOES NOT DO

It does not sync between devices: that needs a server, and we preferred not having one. It does not disguise its icon. It cannot protect anything while the phone is unlocked and the vault is open. And it cannot recover a forgotten recovery phrase — if it could, it would not be a key.

Light and dark themes. English, Russian, Spanish, German and French.

Vault Contacts is for anyone who thinks an address book belongs to the owner of the phone, not to every app with contacts permission.
