Overview

Features & Capabilities

Check estimated sound levels from your Wear OS watch when you want a reference for an everyday environment. dbGuard turns your watch microphone into a glanceable noise meter with Current, Leq average, and Peak estimates, threshold alerts, local history, a Wear OS Tile, and a watch face complication.

WRIST-BASED SOUND LEVEL REFERENCE

Start a measurement session and compare relative sound levels.

Measurement tools include:

• Current estimate for the latest reading • Leq average estimate across the active session • Peak estimate for the highest session reading • Digital A-weighting at supported 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz sample rates • Fast response, about 125 milliseconds • Slow response, about 1 second • Clear Estimated or Calibrated status

Watch microphones and audio processing vary, so results can differ by device. dbGuard presents estimates rather than certified measurements.

OPTIONAL MANUAL CALIBRATION

Adjust dbGuard beside a trusted reference sound meter in a stable sound field. Calibration can improve local agreement for a specific watch, but cannot remove variation caused by microphone hardware, placement, orientation, processing, or surrounding conditions.

THRESHOLD ALERTS AND HAPTICS

Set a personal sound threshold and view Below alert, Near alert, and Above alert states while measuring. Haptic feedback can help you notice changes without continuously watching the display.

Thresholds are personal reference points, not medical, workplace-safety, legal-compliance, or hearing-protection limits.

FOREGROUND AND BACKGROUND SESSIONS

Foreground-only measurement is the default. It works without notification permission and stops when dbGuard is no longer visible.

Optional background continuation must be enabled explicitly. It uses a visible ongoing notification and a selected 15, 30, 60, or 120-minute limit. Background microphone use may consume significant battery.

LOCAL SESSION HISTORY

Review up to 20 session summaries stored locally on the watch. History helps compare recent estimates without an account or online service.

The latest saved session peak is used by the Tile and complication. These surfaces show saved information only and do not silently start microphone measurement.

TILE AND WATCH FACE COMPLICATION

Add the dbGuard Wear OS Tile to view the latest saved session peak. Tap it to open the meter; before the first saved session, it shows an empty state.

Add the watch face complication to keep the latest saved peak visible in a supported slot. Tap it to open the meter.

Neither surface provides live background measurement, passively monitors sound, or activates the microphone. The complication shows a saved-session summary, not a continuous live reading.

STANDALONE WEAR OS WORKFLOW

dbGuard works as a standalone Wear OS sound level meter. No phone companion, account, sign-in, subscription, or internet connection is required for measurement, calibration, alerts, history, the Tile, or the complication.

Use dbGuard as a dB meter reference for comparing environments, checking relative changes, reviewing averages and peaks, or keeping a recent result accessible from your watch face.

LOCAL PRIVACY

Microphone samples are processed locally in memory. Raw audio is not stored or transmitted. dbGuard has no internet permission and includes no account, ads, analytics, telemetry, location access, or health permissions. Only numeric session summaries are retained locally.

IMPORTANT LIMITATIONS

dbGuard provides approximate sound-level information for personal reference. Accuracy depends on the watch microphone, processing, sample-rate support, placement, orientation, calibration, and surroundings.

dbGuard is not a certified sound level meter, noise dosimeter, medical device, hearing-protection system, workplace compliance instrument, or legal measurement tool. It does not certify noise exposure, replace professional equipment, determine whether an environment is safe, or guarantee accuracy across Wear OS devices.
