User Reviews

Paperpile offers an excellent web platform with seamless syncing and strong integration with Google Docs and Microsoft Word, along with responsive support. However, the Android app suffers from performance issues including frequent crashes, poor syncing with the web library, and lack of key features such as multi-document support and reliable annotation saving. Users appreciate the browser experience and cross-platform syncing but find the mobile app underdeveloped and frustrating for Android devices.

  • Great integration with Google Docs and Microsoft Word for citing references.
  • Strong PDF management and annotation features on web platform.
  • Cross-platform support with multi-device syncing, including Android and iOS apps.
  • Responsive and helpful customer support team.
Cons
  • Android app is slow, buggy, and often crashes when opening PDFs.
  • Sync issues on Android, with some papers not appearing or updates not reflecting properly.
  • Android app lacks essential features such as multiple document tabs, folder view, and proper PDF management.
  • Annotations and highlights on Android app often do not save or synchronize correctly.
  • Limited importing/exporting features on mobile apps and missing advanced organization options like sorting by author.

I started the free trial hoping to use this for my lab. Set up my library on the browser/laptop. Then tried to use the apps. But the apps for Android and iOS don't seem to work for downloading papers. I've tried on my phone (Google pixel) and on my husband iPad. Same issue. I set up the proxy for my institution but when I click "download" on papers it asks if I want to sync, I say yes, but then nothing happens and the PDFs never download. Going to find another solution and sad I wasted the time

The web version is great, but the Android app is so bad. If you cannot develop a nice app, just allow the users to use the web on their android devices. Currently it forces the users to install the app. I would rather save the webpage as a chrome shortcut on my home screen, than deal with the app. The sync feature is very bad. I find it super irritating. You read a research paper, highlight things on it and close the app, it doesn't save any of the highlighted content! I mean seriously!!!
