OpenChat — Offline Bluetooth Messenger

OpenChat is an Android messaging app that lets you communicate with nearby users through Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), without requiring an internet connection for messaging.

With Bluetooth mesh networking, encrypted messages can be forwarded through other connected OpenChat devices, enabling communication beyond a single direct Bluetooth connection when relay devices are available.

Chat messages are protected with end-to-end encryption. OpenChat also provides encryption fingerprints to help users verify contact identities.

Group Chats

Join existing groups for free using invitation codes. Creating new groups requires a six-month Group Creator subscription through Google Play.

Nearby Users

Discover compatible OpenChat devices within Bluetooth range and start conversations directly.

Maps & Location Sharing

View locations shared by nearby users on OpenStreetMap-based maps. An internet connection is required to download map tiles.

Local Message History

Your messages, contacts, and conversation history are stored on your device. OpenChat does not use a central messaging server to store conversations.

OpenChat is designed for local conversations, community activities, and situations where internet access is limited or unavailable.

Maps and Google Play subscription verification require internet access.

Connection metadata and shared location information are not fully covered by chat-message end-to-end encryption.
