Every scanned product receives a Traceability Score based on the amount of available information and how consistently different sources agree.

A higher score means more traceability information is available.

The score is not a certification of product origin. It helps you understand how well documented a product appears to be.

🔗 MULTIPLE DATA SOURCES

Origin does not depend on a single food database.

It combines information from sources such as:

• Open Food Facts — products, ingredients and declared manufacturing information
• Wikidata — brands, companies, ownership and associated countries

Each source is displayed separately so you can check where the information comes from.

⚠️ WHEN SOURCES DISAGREE

Product databases are not always consistent.

If different sources provide conflicting information, Origin highlights the contradiction instead of silently choosing one answer.

🏷️ EAN, UPC & GTIN BARCODE INFORMATION

A barcode prefix does not necessarily reveal where a product was manufactured.

EAN and GTIN prefixes identify the GS1 organization responsible for issuing the barcode range.

Origin keeps GS1 barcode information separate from manufacturing and ingredient-origin data to avoid misleading conclusions.
