Who built Cheomseongdae, and for what purpose? What stories are hidden within the stone pagodas of Bulguksa Temple?

Yujeokdam is an app set in Gyeongju, the thousand-year capital of Silla, where historical figures directly tell the stories embedded within its ruins. Instead of dry instruction manuals, if you follow along as if reading a messenger conversation, the stories behind every stone and pond naturally come into your grasp.

■ How to Enjoy

Tap the screen to hear the characters continue the story one line at a time. Listen to the meaning of Cheomseongdae from Queen Seondeok, who used to read the stars; the heart of Bulguksa Temple from Kim Daeseong, who longed for his parents from two lives; and the night of Wolji Pond from King Munmu, who united the nation.

■ Character Encyclopedia Fills Up as You Read

Every time you read a story, the characters featured within it are unlocked in the encyclopedia. Characters you haven't met yet remain as question marks, making the fun of filling in the blanks motivate you to open the next story. You can also examine the relationships between the characters through a relationship chart.

■ Once the story ends, head to the actual location

You can immediately check information on the Gyeongju historic sites that served as the setting for the stories. Using public data from the Korea Tourism Organization, we provide guidance on addresses, visiting hours, admission fees, as well as photos and nearby attractions. If you are traveling in Gyeongju, click "Directions" to stand right at that spot.

Yujeokdam takes its first steps in Gyeongju, the capital of Silla. From Cheomseongdae and Bulguksa Temple to Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, Poseokjeong Pavilion, and Seochulji Pond—we have systematically captured the stories of places suitable for walking tours. Stories from other regions will be added as more material accumulates.
