GPX Track Editor

Create/edit your own trail maps and navigate with them, all on a mobile device.

GPX Track Editor is a powerful Chrome extension that allows you to create and edit your own trail maps directly from your tablet or smartphone. Record tracks or import existing GPX files, then clean up the track data either manually or automatically to refine your routes. The app supports combining tracks, splitting them, and creating complex junctions to map networks accurately.

Navigation is simple and effective, with or without an internet connection. Your trails and waypoints are displayed over Google Maps, using either the default road maps or satellite imagery for better context. Additional features include averaging multiple tracks to smooth out errors or define central routes, and tools for superfluous track point elimination while preserving key junctions. Comprehensive documentation and an accessible privacy policy are included to ensure a seamless and trusted user experience.

User reviews

GPX Track Editor is a uniquely powerful app that enables detailed editing and error detection of GPX files, useful for users needing precise track modifications. However, many users find the UI difficult and unintuitive, requiring study of manuals, and report frequent crashes and file handling issues including problems opening files, especially from SD card. The app lacks clear interface labels and has an annoying autosave feature. While it is valued by advanced users for its editing functionality, its usability and stability issues limit its appeal to casual users.
Pros
  • Unique and powerful GPX editing capabilities including error detection at line level and the ability to split and join tracks.
  • Effective at finding and fixing formatting errors in GPX syntax, saving time for users familiar with it.
  • Helpful for tidying up tracks with GPS errors, deleting bad points and reconnecting tracks.
  • Offers detailed editing options like creating waypoints and modifying segments.
  • Free or low-cost tool that fills a niche not covered by other apps.
Cons
  • User interface (UI) is unintuitive and difficult to use, requiring users to study manuals or help files extensively.
  • File navigation and file opening are problematic, including inability to open files from SD card and issues with file associations.
  • App crashes frequently when trying to open files, access settings, or perform basic functions.
  • Autosave feature is annoying and cannot be disabled.
  • Lacks button labels and clear menus, making it confusing especially for casual users.
  • Help documentation is inadequate and not enough for most users to learn how to operate the app easily.

File navigation does not function. Stuck in default directory... unable to choose a .gpx file to open. File association is broken, default file manager does not recognise this app as even being installed on the system, so unable to make the file association link with Android. Therefore, not usable for me... Had no issues using the app 2 years ago on the same phone: Samsung A30

As a developer, I could figure out this POC, unfortunately it didn't work to import a gpx file, memory limits.
