Cups to Grams Recipe Converter

Recipes cross borders. Measurements do not.

An American recipe says one cup of flour. A European recipe says 120 grams. They are the same amount, but only if you know what you are measuring. A cup of all-purpose flour and a cup of granulated sugar do not weigh the same, and no generic unit converter can tell you the difference.

CONVERT BY INGREDIENT

Pick an ingredient, enter an amount, and get the weight or volume you need. Cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, fluid ounces, millilitres and litres on the volume side. Grams, kilograms, ounces and pounds on the weight side.

Because the conversion is tied to the ingredient, one cup of bread flour and one cup of brown sugar give you different answers. That is how measuring actually works, and it is why a plain unit converter falls short in a kitchen.


THE INGREDIENTS YOU ACTUALLY USE

Flour is not one ingredient. All-purpose, bread, cake, pastry, whole wheat, almond, coconut, oat, rye, semolina, spelt, buckwheat, rice and chickpea flours all weigh differently by the cup, and KitchenGrams keeps them apart.

Salt is not one ingredient either. Table salt, Morton's kosher salt and Diamond Crystal kosher salt differ by more than a factor of two by volume. Measure a tablespoon of the wrong one and the dish changes.

The built-in list covers flours and starches, sugars and syrups, dairy, fats and oils, nuts, seeds and nut butters, grains and oats, leaveners and spices, cocoa and chocolate, and common fruit and vegetable preparations.

WHERE THE NUMBERS COME FROM

Ingredient weights are taken from published reference data rather than estimated. Density is stored per millilitre, so conversions stay correct across US customary, metric and imperial measures instead of assuming one definition of a cup.

When an ingredient is missing from the list, the app tells you rather than guessing. A conversion you cannot trust is worse than no conversion at all, because you will act on it.
